Mare Nostrum Group is a full-service publishing company providing distribution, sales, marketing, data management, recruitment, and consultancy services to commercial and university academic publishers in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific. With over 25 years’ experience, and an in-house team of over 30 employees, the Group is split into three divisions with distinct offerings:

  • Mare Nostrum offers print and digital distribution, sales, marketing and consultancy services to commercial academic publishers.
  • Combined Academic Publishers offers print and digital distribution, sales and marketing
  • Mare Nostrum Recruitment offers a collaborative and tailored recruitment service across all publishing areas.

We are looking to recruit a Publicity & Digital Marketing Executive to help define and implement a cohesive publicity, social media, and external relations strategy, with the aim of (a) promoting the Mare Nostrum Group, with a particular focus on our recruitment service and securing reviews and other publicity for key books in the media to boost sales and develop publisher client relations.

The Role:

  • Social media: Define and implement a coherent strategy for the Mare Nostrum Group social media and websites and the digital aspects of book publicity campaigns.
  • External communications: Establish and nurture relationships with professional bodies and influential individuals in the publishing industry to grow our profile, with a particular emphasis on growing the profile of the recruitment division.
  • Internal communications: Manage and communicate a calendar of internal and external business meetings and events, encouraging input from all team members to facilitate a co-ordinated publicity output.
  • Publicity: Work with our sales and marketing team to define titles to be given publicity treatment. Maximise full publicity potential of allocated titles, including (as appropriate) reviews, excerpts, profiles, broadcast and podcast interviews, placement of op eds or longer essays, participation in book festivals and author events

Person Specification:

  • Genuine engagement with and enthusiasm for our books, and the kind of outlets and journalists who might cover them.
  • Social media, with experience of managing multi-platform campaigns
  • Creative and commercially astute thinker, with an ability to understand and implement Mare Nostrum Group’s business strategy
  • Proven ability to write effectively, whether it’s a Tweet, website content or book pitch.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills.
  • Dynamic, self-motivated and resilient.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and comfortable with networking
  • Clear attention to detail and the ability to work methodically and keep accurate records.
